'Ghosts of Spoon River'
17.09.11
Stories about just odd people will take the outdoor stage this weekend at Prairie Rest Cemetery when the Prairieland The stage Company presents “Ghosts of Spoon River” — an unusual adaptation of Edgar Lee Masters’ classic drudgery, Spoon River Anthology.
Showtimes are 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, Sunday, Sept. 18, and Sunday, Sept. 25. Shower dates are Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. Tickets will be available in Delavan at the performances, at First Farmers Federal Bank, and at Heartland Bank and Trust.
The performance is under the control of Jeff Turner. John Smock is the editor and artistic vice-president.
Turner, who has a background in theatre, said that they started effort on this production way back in the spring. “We decided the cemetery would be the masterly setting for the play, and it has just been a great experience.”
Smock, who has a vocation in theatre, grew up in Pekin. He moved back to the area from Chicago about a year ago, settling in Delavan. Speedily he discovered there was an interest in forming a local theatre company.

An Apple a Dish Can Give Your Holiday Table New Appeal
22.09.11
I started apple-ing savory foods by tossing this crunchy fruit with seasonal cause, something inspired from the Waldorf salads of decades ago. I then gravitated to simmering apples into soup.
It only seemed unsophistical to make stuffing for roasted chickens with challah and apples and to puree apples with crazy about potatoes. Because apple martinis are so popular, I added this aware drink to my repertoire.
While it sounds redundant to infuse so many dishes with apples, I don't be used all of them at the same meal. With its two-day span, the Jewish New Year provides prodigality of opportunities for entertaining.
The essence of autumn, apples add a amusing glow to every flavor they meet. Because there is no place at the Jewish New Year for acidulent or bitter foods, a sprinkle of apples in all sorts of recipes precisely may sweeten our days until next Rosh Hashanah.
