Mindfulness meditation helps you focus on your breathing

I've lived my whole individual with a restless, fidgety animal.

It sniffs. It digs. It turns circles.

It's away excitable - in a bound it's over here. Now it's over there, dragging me along behind it.

Off, it howls. Loud enough to keep me awake. Sometimes loud enough to bother others, perhaps even to rattle the windowpanes.

I'm talking about my own mind.

Not that I ever meditating of my own mind this way. Not that I thought much about my mind at all - who ordinarily thinks about what is booming on inside the walls of your own cranium?

But this is exactly the way I now see my mind since attending sessions in mindfulness meditation, held modern development Tuesday afternoons at the Cancer Center for Healthy Living at 5215 N. Knoxville. The on the loose sessions are led by Ian Wickramasekera, a psychologist who uses mindfulness meditation and connected practices with patients who suffer from severe and chronic aching.

Wickramasekera's mindfulness meditation class is one of at least three in the Peoria stretch. Namaste Wellness Studio at Junction City offers a meditation stratum with Bhante Rahula Ingiriye, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, on Sunday mornings. Meanwhile, the Peoria Understanding Meditation Group meets the first and third Thursday nights of each month at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria on Richwoods.

More spiders

Continuing each night observations of my lazy spider, I notice that she has been joined by a second.

The object that two spiders would willingly share a window seems a stretch for I am told the biggest rival of any spider is another spider.

This one - the newcomer - is much more interesting. She is very active all the duration I'm watching and has created a very handsome "cobweb." So she's an Aranea. With one oppose, she seems more interested in swinging back and forth, or up and down, than going after any of the moths that fluttering in and, except for that one, back out.

With much gratitude to Cromptom's "The Life of the Spider," I now know that webs are equally valuable for care. The sticky web keeps out those who might want to feast on our spider as well as "telegraphing" the newcomer of any unexpected visitor.

So how does the spider avoid getting stuck in its own web? Unctuous feet! Indeed. It is able to cross easily without a problem.

The female spider has two appetites, her belly and sex with, the book says, her intemperance predominant by far. But come fall, the "Laughing Love-God" summons the masculine and away he goes. He isn't coming back.
