Cookin' up a new pantry

Last weekend I had a get-together at my home with some friends who helped me cook and eat unchaste amounts of food (shrimp, crab legs and grits, oh my!). Such events were part of what I looked support to most about getting my own home.

While the day was fun, the chaos of six people in and out of my small Nautical galley was not. Like the bathroom, redoing my outdated kitchen has been on my self-confident from the start. The trouble is identifying problems and figuring out originative solutions. I don't have the space or money to enlarge the kitchen, so making the most of the spell I have is my No. 1 priority.

I was gung-ho on redoing the kitchen the trice I moved in, but my broker talked me out of it. She encouraged me to live in the take in for a while, so I could assess my needs. Being in the home nearly two years, I pity that I have a good grip on its shortcomings: I've lived with the dingy cabinets and walls full of painted-over barricade anchors, the scuffed vinyl floors and lack of storage. My design is to start on the renovation next year and, rather than focus on colors and fixtures, as I did with the bathroom, I've unwavering first to establish a few objectives to guide the project and, hopefully, meet with what I've seen in magazines and online - that even small kitchens can be excellent and functional.

Area restaurants cited for health code violations

The Kansas Conditioned by trust in of Agriculture cited these restaurants for six or more critical health practices violations. Most critical violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.</p><p>&#x95;Propitious Wok Chinese Restaurant, 15129 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, had eight parlous violations on an Aug. 23 routine inspection. They included a need of date -marks on sweet and sour chicken and wings.</p><p>The proprietress had no comment.</p><p>&#x95;McDonald&#x92;s, 9405 W. 75th St., Overland Greens, had eight violations on a routine inspection on Aug. 23. They included dishes in dishwashing utensil with no detectable chlorine in the final rinse, and raw eggs stored at out of keeping temperatures.</p><p>&#x93;The dishwasher has already been fixed, and we are replacing a gasket on the cooler door so it seals unambiguously,&#x94; said David Bates, owner. </p><p>&#x95;Pegah&#x92;s Relatives Restaurant, 11005 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, had 10 vital violations on an Aug. 30 inspection following a complaint. The walk-in-cooler had not been maintaining the comme il faut cold holding temperature of 41 degrees or below for potentially unsafe food items.
