Viking Appliances - Kitchen Equipment

If you had to choose between Kitchenaid and Viking for appliances, which would you choose and why?

Either one. Two factors would influence me....Kitchenaid is made by Whirlpool so service technicians would be readily available, but Viking is ...or has been...a specialized brand with limited technicians. If you live in a large city, that point is mute.

Second, Vikings have traditionally been quite a bit higher in price. More of a status symbol...."see I can afford the more expensive brand." I'm not into that. I want the features I will use.......too often I've paid more for features I never use. Give me a more reliable applicance without excessive bells and whistles.......and with features I truly need.

Homebuilder in Paradise

Key. Stiff is on an outsized growth spurt, partially due to a new showroom built in the downturn.

When Jim Butler’s cupboard company tanked in the recession, he countered with the riskiest area move of his life.

He totally changed directions. He invested more than $1 million in a counterfeit new showroom, a display center for a remodeling and custom homebuilding vocation he also ran. Considering the cabinet firm, Venice-based Mother country Cupboards, went from nearly $10 million in revenues in 2005 to next to no sales by 2008, the arbitration was certainly gutsy.

Several other factors upped the gamble. For one, the funds behind the investment were made up mostly of Butler’s existence savings. Butler also opened the showroom and sales center in a tipsy-traffic, albeit high-rent area on Osprey Avenue, a few miles south of downtown Sarasota.

More premonitory: Butler decided to expand in early fall 2008, the tallness of the global banking and credit crisis.

“It was a pretty dire time. Most people, family members and friends, said I was ape for spending all this money,” says Butler. “But I believed in what I’m doing. We had to reinvent ourselves.”

Sabine Luxury Condos on South Lake Avenue

A new luxury development named Sabine (a name from the ancient people of central Italy) is now selling 12 luxury townhouses on South Lake Avenue convenient to and near great shops (like Pavilions, Peet’s Coffee, Noahs Bagels, Macy’s, etc.) geared toward buyers that may desire to live within walking distance to these amenities. Sabine’s design isn’t Italian, but French chateau style and its 12 luxury townhouses start from $1.25 million.

As I walked through the homes during my preview, it was apparent that the developer, Legendary Development, put much effort into the higher quality materials that were chosen to appeal to more discriminating buyers. Kitchens had Viking appliances, ogee-edged counter tops, under mount sinks, etc. and bathrooms with Saint Thomas Creations toilets. Elevators and private rooftop terraces were available in the larger units toward the back of the complex. One of the units I previewed even had a “basement” that was converted to a movie screening room (what a great way to entertain guests).

Overall, the general vibe I got was that this development would have a good chance appealing to the kind of affluent buyers that are downsizing and/or looking for a more urban lifestyle.

These pictures are from unit #12 (which is similar to unit #1) and gives you a good idea of the feel of Sabine:
