Humidifier?

My house is so dry (and I live in Florida... can't figure it out). Everyday I have a stuffy nose and sometimes nose bleeds, and also very dry skin. I've dealt with it until now. Now I have a 3 week old and he is stuffed up constantly and seems to have a hard time breathing sometimes b/c of it. It makes me very nervous. I bought a cool mist humidifier for the bedroom, but I haven't noticed any difference for either myself or him. Should I have bought a warm mist or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

I had this exact same problem. Go to walmart and buy a humidity thermometer. I bought a cool mist humidifier for my home for the same reasons you did and I couldn't tell a difference either until I spent about 3 bucks {digital ones cost about 15 dollars} on the little humidity thermometer{they are located in the same section as the humidifiers and are small so you have to look hard for them}. What I found was the humidifier unless run 24 hrs a day did not put off enough humidification to bring the humidity level to a "comfort zone" according to the little humidity thermometer. Since we have gotten into the "comfort zone" I can tell a difference. Now the problem is when I check the humidity in other rooms where there are no humidifiers it is not within the "comfort zone" so I might just end up buying a humidifier {cool mist} that is made to humidify an entire home. There are also humidifiers that regulate the humidity all by its self my father bought one from Sears and it turns on and off depending on the humidity level in the home.

Also make sure the humidifier you purchased is the right size for the room you are trying to humidify

The plastic housing for the replacement filter disintergrates when washed. When the filter dries, it becomes very hard. This is ineffective as the dial on the humidifier registers that this new replacement needs changing and this filter needs constant changing. The new extra replacement filters (2) that were purchased 6 weeks ago have almost doubled in price since that purchase. The humidifier should be sold with multiple filters and now becomes a bad investment. We do not recommend this purchase.

This wick/fan based humidifier is much noisier than my old ultrasonic mist based humidifier. The noise level even on low is too loud. Forget about sleeping in the same room with this thing if it’s set to high. The wick filter also gets dirty and smelly really fast if you don’t clean it constantly. On the plus side, the water tank is big (3 gallons) and there is an auto on/off based on ambient humidity.

It’s well established that the overuse of antimicrobial treatments is leading to the development of dangerous resistant bacteria that pose a threat to the environment and to human health. You can do your small part to fight this trend by buying one of the many equivalent products that don’t come with an antimicrobial treatment.
