Electric Range - Kitchen Equipment

Electric Range?

I am planning on purchasing an electric range pretty soon. We have a gas one, but although haivng a gas range cuts down on the electric bill I have to buy propane (and it isn't cheap nore can I order any smaller than a min order) So, I was wanting to query those who have purchased electric ranges what is the best brand at the best price.

Depending on your house set up, you will need at least a 30 amp outlet installed for the stove. If you electric panel can handle that or if its already there, your in luck. If not, add that to the cost of going to electric. I've had GE gas and electric stoves and they've been a good value for middle of the road models. The one (elec) that I had was about $700. I think the electric stoves were in general of the same quality made for Sears which would be another model that I've had and would recommend. Again, not the low end but middle to upper middle end stoves.

I actually went the other way, I switched out an electric stove to go to gas so that I could remove the 30 amp breaker and use that extra load somewhere else in the house. Gas stove only needed a standard wall outlet instead of the 3 phase outlet.

Electric Vehicles Led by Leaf Fail to Connect Consumers: Cars

Sept. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Klaus Doerrzapf, who has solar panels on his tellingly, has no plans for an emission-free car in his garage. He's one of the reasons why automakers like Nissan Motor Co. won't refund investments in electric vehicles anytime soon.

“It's too at the crack,” the 50-year-old manager at an electrics crowd said at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. “Range and quotation are a problem. Battery life and charging times are also concerns,” Doerrzapf said, while looking at an electric-powered Zero in from Ford Motor Co.

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, Volkswagen AG and Nissan companion Renault SA talked up their electric vehicles at the Frankfurt motor show as they rolled out a memento number of models and began the search for a return on their enlargement spending. Nissan, the maker of the all-electric Leaf, is investing 4 billion euros ($5.5 billion) together with Renault to body electric cars.

Following the introduction last year of the Leaf, Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s i MiEV, and Extensive Motors Co.'s Chevrolet Volt, the new models will test consumer bent for electric vehicles, which cost more than double the price of conventional models. Consumers are balking at paying up, disturbed that their own investment will be wiped out in a few years because the batteries may not last.

GE, GM in push on EV infrastructure for China

SHANGHAI (AP) — Habitual Electric and General Motors Co. agreed Thursday on a pilot base of electric vehicle charging stations in Shanghai, the latest path in the automaker's plan to develop infrastructure in China to hold up sales of its Chevrolet Volt electric car.

As part of the agreement, GE also agreed to buy the extended range electric cars for use at its corporate campus in Shanghai. GM plans to shoot the Volt in December in China, where it has made electric vehicles a core part of its policy for expansion despite doubts Chinese consumers will liven up up such cars.

The companies gave no details about investment in the charging stations, which will classify both GE's WattStations and Durastations, two different specifications for charging electric vehicles.

China is a linchpin make available for GM. Earlier this week it announced plans for developing a new electric conduit with its local partner Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp. It also has virtuous opened an advanced technology center to support its efforts to figure more energy efficient and safer automobiles, with a lab devoted to developing new battery cells for EVs.

No Heating in Microwave - Appliance Repair Forum

There was steam rising up from the stove into the over the range microwave and it was on at the time. It popped very loud like a spark sound and now will not heat anything. The lights all work, keeps time, but the fan stays on high and will not go to a low setting. We have taken 2 parts to be tested and they worked fine, now I just bought a magnitron tube and that didn't fix it either. Anything else we can try before purchasing a new one??? Thanks for any help.

GM To Build Electric Motors For “Future Range Of RWD Vehicles ...

The motors will be used in GM’s next-generation rear-drive, two-mode hybrid vehicles, specifically full-sized trucks arriving in 2013. The motors are also expected to be used in a future range of rear-drive cars, GM will announce today. Savagian said the new motor will use less electricity, resulting in better fuel economy. He didn’t provide specifics.

GM currently offers a two-mode hybrid in such vehicles as the 2010 SUV and Silverado pickup. They average 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

Additionally, with the smaller packaging, “we will be able to utilize them in (rear-drive) cars as well,” said Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman of global product operations. He made the announcement today at the Washington auto show. No details were given for car applications. The motors will be built at a plant in White Marsh, Md., outside Baltimore, said spokesman Brian Corbett.

Interesting. I’ve been told many times that FWD (transverse, at least) suffers less drivetrain loss when compared to RWD, which means that FWD is usually the more efficient drivetrain layout. And if you’re going electric, it seems like efficiency is paramount.

I wonder if you just put the engine in the back, transverse, you’ll have the most efficient layout of all. No turning CV joints, u-joints, diffs, etc–nearly a direct connection to the wheels. I wonder if GM will have to assemble these motors with UAW/IBEW labor along with their special uncompetitive work rules (and Cadillac health plans)? If so, consider the motors uncompetitive.

I thought GM had given up on vertical integration and decided to stick to what they arguably do best – build cars.

Everything old is new again, but an electric motor is far more than one degree of separation from an IC engine. Next, look for GM to buy the copper mines for the motor windings. Hell, it’s just taxpayer money. I take this a bit differently. Hopefully this will make the two mode trucks and SUV’s more affordable. But, the current two mode system was on its way into a Saturn Vue before Saturn died. If they can fit it in there, my guess is that the new one will also fit into the Lambdas and maybe the Thetas.
