Pair charged in Summerville dryer thefts

Noel Rogers, 40, of Gambrells Lane, Summerville, and Doris Bernhardt, 49, of Robinson Boulevard, Hanahan, were each charged with eight counts of third-degree burglary, said policewomen Capt. Jon Rogers. At a bond hearing in municipal court Thursday, a jurist set total bail for each of them at $150,000, Rogers said.
They were bewitched back to the Charleston County jail where they were being held on similar charges filed Wednesday by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Duty.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pair are accused of embezzlement a washing machine on Sept. 14 from a the Ladson 24 Hour Laundry on U.S. Highway 78. They were each charged with petit larceny in that specimen, said Maj. Jim Brady, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. Bail was set for each at $1,092.
According to court records, Rogers and Bernhardt were arrested on Sept. 21 by North Charleston the cops on drug and larceny charges. Bail was set at $30,000 for Bernhardt and $20,000 for Rogers on the charges filed by North Charleston.

Clothes dryers hot items for thieves

SUMMERVILLE -- Thieves have swiped more than a dozen clothes dryers from neighbourhood apartment complexes in a brazen case of laundry abide larceny.
Are they going for the coins? Looking for scrap metal? Frustrating to create a massive lint ball?
No one is quite unavoidable. But the thefts have left a trail of soggy laundry across this suburban community since recently August, when crooks began appropriating the appliances.
The thieves have been nothing if not impudent. They hit one apartment complex a couple of days in a row, making off with four dryers and a washing gang, police said. Another complex got nearly the same treatment, losing five of its dryers in the prepare, according to police reports.
Witness reports bring up the thieves simply ride up in pickup and haul the machines away faster than you can say "turn cycle." The stolen machines were worth between $400 and $1,500 each, oversee said.
Police Capt. Jon Rogers said investigators reckon the dryer bandits are after the money in the coin-operated machines. He said policemen have identified suspects, but he couldn't say for sure when arrests would be made.
