Former U.S. Postal Service carrier charged in mail theft
03.10.11
A former U.S. Postal Ritual carrier from Blue Springs faces federal charges of embezzlement DVDs, gift cards and other mail.
Beth Phillips, U.S. Attorney for the Western Region of Missouri, announced today that Felipe S. Lara, 35, of Pornographic Springs, had been charged in federal court with theft of dispatch by an employee. Lara waived his right to a grand jury.
Prosecutors charge that Lara, while employed as a rural carrier from June 19, 2009 through Feb. 15 of this year, shawl 120 Netflix DVDs and approximately 1,000 pieces of send, including gift cards valued at $215, from the items he was supposititious to deliver to ZIP codes 64151 through 64155.
Court documents said that Netflix alerted the U.S. Postal Benefit of large losses in those ZIP codes. Investigators discovered hundreds of pieces of mail not addressed to Lara in his horseshit. According to court documents, when a search warrant was executed on Feb. 15, investigators found the DVDs from Netflix, dole cards and two black trash bags containing 444 pieces of closed mail, 80 opened envelopes and several magazines, none of which were addressed to Lara.
