Helen Bloodless, owner of Palatial Homes, a builder of quality, euphoric-end homes, knew when she began contracting more than 10 years ago that there could be some opposition. Over the years she's worked hard to build trust with her subcontractors by being organized and proving she knows her wiliness.
“I'm sure some people felt I didn't know the first aspect about contracting,” said White, “and that I should limit myself to scheming or, in some cases, maybe even stay at home in the kitchen.”
It took some people longer than others to on around, but she now has good Amish framing, masonry, roofing and cabinetry people along with her other crews.
“We've found a general ground and have a good working relationship. And that's the most important item, as far as I'm concerned, because that house has all of our names on it, and mine's right at the top of the list. Clients really comment on how nice the crews have been and how helpful they are.”
