Can you grind other things besides meat in a meat grinder?

we are looking for a prodigious duty grinder for food. we need a grinder to grind up roots into the right stuff, and we don't think that a coffee grinder will do the job.
can we put things besides meat in a meat grinder?
if not, what would you suggest grinding roots in?
we are looking for an stimulating grinder.

You can bray anything in there. Just make sure to wash it thoroughly after each use. I really put raw cranberries in mine to make cranberry salad. So yeah, rather much anything will grind up in there. But it will not grind it powder-fine. You will likely demand to process it again in a food processor or coffee grinder to get it into a powder.

The size of that hole differs depending on who you ask, but is somewhere between $400 million and $774 million. So something needs to be done—but the mix of tax increases, help cuts, and efficiencies is what's at stake as this report goes first to Governmental Committee on Monday the 19th, and then to city council after that.

The recommendations are far more extensive than the stuff that made Sun headlines this morning. ( The full report is online here at the conurbation's website. ) Not just zoos and theatres, but some of the services that people all over the diocese rely on. One that caught our eye was the suggestion to either reduce or eliminate the TTC's Crestfallen Night bus program, or to make it a premium service by raising fares. It's onerous to see how cost-effective this would be (and the added grief it would cause bus drivers to have to signify with drunks on the late Friday night shift may stop by back to bite the city later.)
