"It took a lot of profession for us to get it to where it is today," said Doug Sterling, who opened the Whaling Conurbation Diner with his girlfriend and business partner, Elsa DeFaria, in April.

"We saw a lot of developing in this space and decided to go for it. So far, the response has been incredible."

Having theretofore housed eateries like Three Flags, Mary's Make a splash and Subway, Whaling City Diner's venue certainly has all of the logistical makings of a restaurant, including a leading downtown location surrounded by ample parking. The part of the country just needed a lot of sprucing up to get it to where Sterling and DeFaria wanted it.
