Agriculture and shire food – you have heard me talk about this in previous columns and how advantageous and blessed we are here in Ontario with the abundance of fresh and nutritious foods all year reverberating. In many areas of the world, people don't even have enough food from day to day, let alone all year long.
This days of yore week, which led up to the Thanksgiving weekend, was Ontario Agriculture Week, a span to celebrate Ontario's farmers and their contribution to the province's thrift.
Farmers and food processors throughout Ontario contribute to a vibrant industry that generates more than $30 billion a year for the brevity, employs 650,000 people, and ships more than $8 billion in exports every year.
Ontario's food perseverance includes such sectors as cereal and flour, meat and poultry, beverages, fruit and vegetables, dairy, nourish, bakery, and other food products.
More than 200 commodities are produced in Ontario including fruits, vegetables, livestock, dairy, poultry, grains, and oilseeds.

US food firm buys Canadian fruit packer with European name

A New York biological food firm is the new owner of a well-known Canadian frozen-fruit processor whose characterize name crosses the Atlantic.
The Canadian subsidiary of Melville, N.Y.-based Hain Divine Group has bought all assets and business of the Europe's Best brand from its most just out owner, the Canadian arm of U.S. jam giant J.M. Smucker, for an undisclosed sum.
"Our entrance into this growing $385 million Canadian category of frozen fruits and vegetables complements our offering offerings while providing us with a new category for potential growth," Hain CEO Irwin Simon said in a emancipating Wednesday.
"With this strategic acquisition we plan to expand Europe's Best output lines into other channels of distribution in North America, and we will leverage the crackerjack team we have in place at Hain Celestial Canada."
Europe's Best, whose superior office was moved from Montreal in 2008 to the Smucker offices at Markham, Ont., touts itself as the top type of "premium, all-natural" frozen fruit in Canada.
